The 2014 Falcons faced some new challengers this year in District 6-5A. The Falcons reloaded with young talent and showed a lot of fight week in and week out. Let’s take a look to see how they did.
Non-District
Frisco Wakeland
Falcons Current Record: 0-0
The Wolverines started off strong by taking the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, and the Falcons were never able to recover from a 21-0 first quarter deficit. Wakeland’s 323 rushing yards were too much to overcome as the Falcons suffered their first loss.
Result:Â The Falcons lost 54-41.
Frisco Centennial
Falcons Current Record: 0-1
The Falcons fell behind early again vs Centennial but a Keegan Brewer interception turned the tide. The Falcons were able to keep the momentum with big plays on offense and defense and secured their first victory of the season.
Result: The Falcons won 56-35.
Lovejoy
Falcons Current Record: 1-1
The Falcons were on the road for a third straight week as they traveled to Lucas. The Falcon defense was huge in this game as they forced five turnovers and held the Leopards to 17 points. The Falcons focuses on establishing the running game early and often as they rushed for almost 200 yards.
Result: The Falcons won 35-17.
Dallas Kimball
Falcons Current Record: 2-1
The Falcons first home game came against a tough Kimball team. However, Courtenay Holder led the Falcons as he scored five touchdowns. Four of those touchdowns came on offense as a running back and the fifth was an interception he returned for a touchdown.
Result: The Falcons won 49-34.
District 6-5A
Grapevine
Falcons Current Record: 3-1
The red-hot Falcons hosted Grapevine in the district home opener and started the game with a bang. Courtenay Holder had a 74 yard touchdown run on the first play of the game. The Falcons stayed hot as Dagan Haehn threw for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Result: The Falcons won 49-21.
Carter-Riverside
Falcons Current Record: 4-1
The Falcons scored on their first offensive play for the second week in a row. This time, Keegan Brewer caught a 76-yard touchdown pass from Dagan Haehn. The Falcons also scored on their second offensive play on a 58-yard rushing touchdown from Courtenay Holder. The Falcons went on to score on every first half possession after that and ran away with the game.
Result: The Falcons won 56-7.
Birdville
Falcons Current Record: 5-1
This was Keegan Brewer’s time to shine as he scored five touchdowns and had a fourth quarter interception to seal the victory. The Falcons led by 7 points going into the fourth quarter. However, a Brewer touchdown catch, a Holder touchdown run, and some key defensive stops gave the Falcons some breathing room.
Result: The Falcons won 47-26.
Eastern Hills
Falcons Current Record: 6-1
The Falcons got off to another quick start to the tune of 21 first quarter points vs Eastern Hills. Dagan Haehn lit up the scoreboard with four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. Keegan Brewer hauled in two of those touchdown passes and also accounted for 159 total receiving yards.
Result: The Falcons won 49-7.
Polytechnic
Falcons Current Record: 7-1
It was more of the same for the Falcons offense vs the Parrots. Dagan Haehn threw for seven touchdowns in the first half and scored on every first half drive. The Falcons officially clinched a playoff spot with this win.
Result: The Falcons won 59-35.
Dunbar
Falcons Current Record: 8-1
The Falcons scored on their second play of the game with a Keegan Brewer touchdown catch and they didn’t look back. The Falcons scored 31 first half points and were able to hold on to the lead after a Dunbar surge in the fourth quarter to win the District 6-5A championship.
Result: The Falcons won 45-36.
Playoffs
Wichita Falls
Falcons Current Record: 9-1
The Falcons traveled to Springtown to face a former district foe in the first round of the playoffs. Once again, the Falcons got off to a quick start but they were not able to hold on this time. This was a game dominated by defense and the Falcons came up just short as their historic 2014 season came to an end.
Result: The Falcons lost 17-14.
